Vacate seats of seven Bersatu 'turncoats', challenges Muhyidddin

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic) has dared the Parliament and Selangor State Assembly speakers to vacate the seats held by so-called Perikatan Nasional "turncoats".

The Perikatan chairman said the mandate should be returned to the people for them to make another decision.

He said the Perikatan representatives – who were chosen by the people in the 15th General Election in 2022 – had betrayed the party.

Muhyiddin said he believed that the people had rejected Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional, which were now desperate to seek the support of Opposition MPs.

"If you dare, declare the seven seats vacant," Sinar Harian quoted Muhyiddin as saying.

"We should return the mandate to the people and let them decide.

"I am confident that Perikatan will win the seats with a bigger majority," said Muhyiddin when speaking at the Perikatan Representatives Convention in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (March 9).

Bersatu MPs who have thrown their support behind Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim are Datuk Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Suhaipi Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

Following this, an extraordinary general assembly of Bersatu on March 2 approved an amendment to strip the membership of MPs or assemblymen who supported anyone opposed to the party.

On March 6, Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari declared his support for Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari.
